JD(S) finalises list

March 26, 2014 01:57 am | Updated May 19, 2016 11:24 am IST - BANGALORE:

After its attempts to woo two minority community leaders — H.T. Sangliana and C.K. Jaffer Sharief — did not yield results, the Janata Dal (Secular) has finalised candidates for the remaining 12 constituencies, leaving Dakshina Kannada to the Social Democratic Party of India.

Sources in the party told The Hindu that party State general secretary Abdul Azeem would be fielded from Bangalore North while dancer Nandini Alva would be the party’s candidate from Bangalore Central and social worker Ruth Manorama would contest from Bangalore South. The party is likely to field the former Minister B. Somashekhar from Mysore. Siddu Kamat will be its candidate from Bijapur.

‘Kumaraswamy in fray’

Staff Correspondent from Davangere writes:

A. Krishnappa, State president of the JD(S) told presspersons here on Tuesday that the former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy would contest the Lok Sabha election from Chickballapur and he would file his nomination papers on Wednesday.

He said Mr. Kumaraswamy, who did not want to enter the electoral fray this time, agreed to contest owing to pressure from supporters.

Mr. Krishnappa accompanied Mahima Patel, the party candidate for the Davangere Lok Sabha constituency, when he filed his nomination papers on Tuesday.
