Vodafone Fiji Limited, being the number one mobile network provider in Fiji, has also been actively involved in community work around Fiji.
In their recent support, Vodafone Fiji Foundation supported the Lions Club of Ba with $15,000 for their ‘Sight First’ initiative earlier this week.
The initiative and the Foundation’s partnership journey started in 2009 and have been successful in screening 3000 Fijians to avoid blindness in the Western Division.
Vodafone Fiji Foundation executive, Ambalika Devi said the Lions Club has been actively involved in the Sight First project which aims to prevent avoidable blindness in the Western corridor.
“Our partnership with the club started in 2009 to support the Sight First initiative and we are proud to be associated with the Sight First project in light of the positive impact it has been making in the lives of the people,” Ms Devi said.
Club president Nitya Prakash said the club conducts screening, provides eye glasses and also does cataract operations.
“We have conducted the Sight first project at Karavi Public School in Ba to start off the initiative for this year,” Mr Prakash said.
He says in 2013, around 120 Fijians have been operated on by the Pacific Eye Institute for corrective measures and 500 patients were issued corrective eye glasses.
“We are indebted to the Foundation for their timely support through the grant of $15,000 annually which has seen some 300 cataracts and laser operations being successfully performed,” he said.
Mr Prakash further said the club had also been successful in distributing more than 1000 eye glasses and $1000 worth of medication given out to patients.
