The soon-to-be released Samsung Galaxy S5 features an IP67 rating, which indicates dust resistance and water resistance in up to one meter of water for up to 30 minutes. Rumors now indicate that the Samsung flagship phablet, tentatively called the Galaxy Note 4, may have the same resistant features.

According to reports out of South Korea, the Galaxy Note 4 will use the same Liquid Silicon Molding for water resistance that was implemented in the Galaxy S5. On the Galaxy S5, the LSM is found on the inside of the device’s back panel. When the back panel is attached, the water-resistant LSM seals the most important internal components of Galaxy S5. Additionally, the Galaxy S5 features a covering for its USB port for added water protection. Sources believe that the Ingress Protection Rating will now be standard on Samsung’s flagship devices. Samsung first introduced the IP67 rating on the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active last year.

Though the release of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is probably still several months away, there have been many murmurs about the device from particularly credible sources. In January, Bloomberg spoke with Samsung's executive vice president of mobile business, Lee Young Hee, who revealed that the next Galaxy Note was utilize a three-sided display, which would allow uses to read messages from an angle.

Dennis Miloseski, head of studio for Samsung Design America, also noted earlier this year that the next Note will be released in the fall. Though it is still too early to confirm, it is likely the Galaxy Note 4 may be unveiled at or around the IFA Expo 2014 in September, just as the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and other predecessor Note devices were. The Galaxy Note 3 was announced on Sept. 4, during one expo’s press preview days. The IFA Expo 2014 will take place Sept. 5 to 10, and the Galaxy Note 4 could similarly see a launch in the days preceding the trade show.

Notably, the late-February unveiling event for the Samsung Galaxy S5 was called Samsung Unpacked 2014: Episode One. Episode Two will likely be the unveiling event for the Galaxy Note 4 later this year; Samsung similarly named its unveiling events for the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 last year, Samsung Unpacked 2013: Episode One and Episode Two. The Korean manufacturer is known for being quite predictable in its flagship launches.
