Kiprop, Kiplagat set to grace AK Relay Series

The reigning Commonwealth Games 1,500m champion Silas Kiplagat is set to take part in his first Athletics Kenya Relay Series set for Saturday at Safaricom Stadium, Kasarani.
Kiplagat hopes to put behind his dismal performance at the just concluded World Indoor Championships in Poland by securing a place in Kenya’s 4x1500 team for the World Relays due May 23-24 in Bahamas.
Kiplagat, who is also the 2011 World Championships 1,500m silver medallist, said he performed poorly in Poland after he failed to work on his finishing after intense loading in December.
DISMAL PERFORMANCE
The 24-year-old athlete shockingly finished a distant ninth place in the heats, failing to reach the final during the World Indoors held a fortnight ago.
“I not only want to travel to Bahamas but also improve my personal best that I set four years ago in Monaco,” said Kiplagat, who boastd of personal best of 3:29.27 posted in the 2010 with victory in Monaco.
“I have been doing 3:29s and 3:30s over the four years but I want to dig deep,” said Kiplagat adding that he is aware his good friends like Asbel Kiprop are planning an attack on the World Record this year but he also wants to run good times.
The reigning World 1,500m champion Kiprop will be targeting to break the world record of three minutes 26.00 seconds during the Monaco Diamond League on July 18, this year.
The 24-year-old Kiprop, who will also be competing in the AK Relays, disclosed recently that he will attempt to lower his personal best of 3:27.72 this season.
Kiplagat will team up with Robert Kaptingei, Hillary Yego and Geoffrey Rono in the 4x1,500m competition that will be having five teams.
Kiplagat’s team is up against Kiprop’s team of Hillary Maiyo, Bernard Kaptingei and Vincent Kibet.
