Kapil Sharma to debut in a Marathi film
'Dunno Y' actor Kapil Sharma who shot to fame with his on screen lip-lock with co-actor Yuvraaj Parashar is all set to debut in Marathi films now. An admirer of Dada Kondke, Kapil is brushing up his Marathi skills. Exceprts from the interview:
We hear you are doing a Marathi film. Can you tell us something about that?
Kapil: Yes. I am actually excited about doing a Marathi film.
It is a love story. I can't reveal much about it yet. But the film will go on floors towards the end of the year.
Do you follow Marathi cinema?
Kapil: As a kid I followed Marathi cinema. I particularly admired Dada Kondke. He is an inspiration for me. I feel that today we people appreciate a sex comedy like 'Delhi Belly' but media hasn't given Dada Kondke the respect he deserved. As a kid I never understood his double meaning jokes and yet his style would make me laugh. He was a one man army when it came to entertainment. I even admire Nilu Phule. There hasn't been another villian like him. I mean you look at him and wonder how a person can be such a scum. As an artist he has achieved this.

Have you seen any of the recent Marathi films?
Kapil: No. I haven't been able to do so. I have got the DVDs of 'Timepass' and 'Duniyadari and plan to watch them. I actually wanted to see 'Timepass' in theatres but missed it.
People address you as a Gay rights activist post 'Dunno Y'. Would you like to explore the subject in regional cinema as well?
Kapil: Marathi cinema and theatre have always been progressive in terms of handling such issues. Marathi theatre is doing much better than Hindi and English theatre in the Mumbai circuit. I would love to explore such a subject in Marathi too, provided the story is gripping. I don't wish to go ahead with such roles just for the heck of it. We are currently doing the sequel to 'Dunno Y'.
