Notice to AAP, BJP for poll code violation

KANPUR: The district administration, on Thursday, issued show cause notices to many political parties, Bharatiya Janata Party for violation of model code of conduct and directed them to explain why legal proceedings be not initiated against them on March 25.
The additional district magistrate (ADM city) informed that administration had taken cognizance on complaints on the basis of reports published in newspapers.
A notice was issued to Yogesh Srivastava, convener of Aam Admi Party, on March 17. A local newspaper had published a news with a photograph on March 16, in which it was displayed that AAP had hung a banner bigger than the specified size on a public property without seeking permission.
Mahendra Tiwari, a BJP leader was charged on the basis of news appearing in another local newspaper. In that news item, Mahendra's car was carrying party flag and a plate depicting party 's name. During conversation Mahendra had stated that he used to keep all directives and rules of the Election Commission in his pocket. Former MP Anil Shukla Warsi was also charged on the basis of news in a local Hindi daily, where it was mentioned that he had distributed lunch packets among the listeners who had appeared in a meeting at Naubasta Macharia on March 16.
The district administration had taken cognizance of a news in an English daily that a shop keeper in General Ganj was selling sarees in Modi brand packs. A notice was issued to district president of Bharatiya Janata party to explain his stand on this issue. The district administration also served notice to Dhaniram Baudh, secretary Bhartiya Dalit Panther. He had claimed in a news that in a meeting 'Sarva Dharma Prarthana Sabha' convened by his party, politicians like Shriprakash Jaiswal and Surendra Mohan Agarwal had appeared. The ADM city said that meeting was appearing as political. If they had any permission then they should disclose it.
A criminal case had been registered against Nikhil Gupta, a candidate of Nav Bharat Democratic Party. He had been charged that he had convened a meeting at Fazalganj without seeking permission from district administration. He had violated the provisions of Section 144 CrPC.
Banner and poster removed: The district administration had removed as many as 21,375 posters and banners installed at public places. Among them 209 were graffiti, 1,556 posters, 4,518 banners and 15,091 were others. Similarly it had removed 38 wall writings, 327 posters, 27 banners and 72 others from Private property.
Deposition of firerms: The officials said that as many as 26,569 arms had to be deposited before the elections. The owners had to deposit them either at police station or police lines.
Liqour seized: The administration has seized 959 litres of liquor worth Rs 2.15 lakhs in last few days.
