Producer and DJ Jai Vaswani, aka Nanok, will release his brand new album, Death By Shoelaces, in the city on March 22, as part of his three-city launch tour that includes Mumbai and Pune.
Having been a DJ for over 10 years, Nanok has experimented with a variety of genres. However, his brand new set with a dance floor-friendly sound has cemented his place as one of the freshest sounds in the Indian independent electronic music circuit.
In the seven tracks on Death By Shoelaces, Nanok embraces this new sound, which jumps deftly from house, to funk, to disco, and occasionally features heavy Indian elements.
Nanok’s latest album signals a brand new sound for the producer, and a departure from his previous record, Bitter. His most recently released single, Rescue Me, features on the compilation album Subterra, released last month by Dualist Inquiry’s Dualism Records. The last few months have seen Nanok consistently gigging across the local circuit, including a show alongside the hugely popular American producer Michal Menert, in November last year.
Born in Queens, New York, Nanok moved to Mumbai at a very young age, and discovered his love for music and began DJing in the city, before travelling to London to study music production, where he discovered a range of new sounds.
Nanok will play at The Humming Tree on March 22.
