Zico apologizes for Thailand comment

Zico of K-pop hip-hop boy band Block B has apologized for a “mistake” he made in Thailand two years ago.

The apology came during an interview on the MBC late night show “Radio Star” on Wednesday.

When asked about the controversy he had created in a Thai interview in 2012, the singer halted for a moment and remarked:

“I feel very sorry to the Thai audience who got hurt about my comment back then. I was immature. Actually, I wasn’t aware how catastrophic the flood was.”

Zico, whose real name is Woo Ji-ho, was heavily criticized for having a disrespectful attitude during a 2012 interview in Thailand. When asked to comment on a flood that had occurred in the country, the rapper remarked that “the only thing we have is money.”

Another member of the group asked how much he would give, and Zico joked “7,000 won,” or $6.50, and the group laughed. Since then, Zico has apologized for his behavior several times.

In the meantime, it was reported that his group, Block B, will hold a concert in May at Olympic Hall, southeastern Seoul.
