Police in Pennsylvania say a bearded buggy driver believed to be Amish smashed into a woman’s Honda CRV — twice — and then fled the scene, arms in the air, at a high rate of speed.
Moments before striking the car the first time, he was “flying like a bat out of hell,’ ” a witness said, the New York Daily News reported, citing a Smoking Gun story.
Victim Michelle Cooper, 36, of New Wilmington, recounted to police how she was sitting at a stop sign with her two sons and nephew, 10, in her Honda CRV, when the horsedrawn buggy hit the side of her car but failed to stop. She said she tried to flag down the buggy driver, ultimately getting out of her vehicle about a mile down the road to confront him, the New York Daily News said.
That’s when the buggy driver, described as a bearded man with seeming ties to the Amish community, “threw his hands in the air” and fled — hitting her car once more, she said, to the media outlet. She also said her car has about $3,000 worth of damage.
Pennsylvania state troopers, meanwhile, are on the lookout for the buggy driver.
