Heroes save surfer knocked unconscious at Adelaide beach

Three surfers are being hailed heroes after rescuing a mate who was knocked unconscious in the water off an Adelaide Beach.

The victim, a state champion, nearly drowned, but the trio’s quick thinking saved her life.

Ellen Watson was surfing at the Three Poles break near Seaford when she was knocked out around 8am this morning.

Fortunately her surf crew consisting of Butts, Juggy and Stevie came to the rescue.

“Elle was paddling out on a wave set and a guy took off and virtually run right into her head with his board and knocked her unconscious,” Kym Butler said.

“She was just floating face down, the guy was trying to get her up, but he was going down so I paddled over, I turned her over and put her on my board.”

Ellen started to wake up as the trio brought her back in.

“If she'd been there by herself she would have drowned, I don’t think there’s any two ways about it, she was unconscious, absolutely,” Stevie said.

Paramedics were also quick to arrive and firefighters helped carry her off the beach.

The 21-year-old is recovering in hospital.

“I think she was more annoyed about having her wetsuit cut off, but she’s fine, she’s still got her feisty spirit,” a friend told 7News.
