Youth blackmails wife's kin to save marriage
SURAT: In a desperate attempt to prevent his wife from ending their 20-day-old marriage, a youth resorted to morphing photographs of her relatives and threatened to defame them in the cyber space.
The 22-year-old, Jalpesh alias Rahul Navadiya, has been booked for allegedly circulating obscene photographs of his in-laws. The couple had got married in December 2013 but within 20 days his wife returned to her parents.
The youth morphed and circulated within the family vulgar photos of women from his wife's family through a mobile application claiming that they were prostitutes and threatened to defame them. He also sourced pictures of some men from his wife's family and after morphing them, created posters claiming that they were gays. He wrote under the photos, "I am gay. Contact me for homosexual relations."
After their marriage, the couple had gone to Mount Abu from where the girl had contacted her parents. She alleged that she had been forced into marriage.
After bringing the girl back to Surat, her family initiated divorce proceedings. On coming to know about this, the accused planned to threaten the girl's family. He obtained the photographs from the memory card of his wife's mobile phone.
The girl's uncle, a realty developer, lodged a complaint against him and the matter was handed over to the crime branch.
"He threatened the girl's family that he will separate all the couples who are taking interest in their separation," said inspector B K Vanar of crime branch.
The accused also circulated vulgar messages to the family members of the girl. Sources said that the girl has alleged that he had threatened to defame her if she did not marry him.
