Pune university sanctions Rs 5.4cr for Nashik sub-centre

The University of Pune (UoP) has sanctioned Rs 5.4 crore for the construction of its sub-centre in the city.The decision was taken during the UoP's senate meeting on March 16 and 17.

NASHIK: The University of Pune (UoP) has sanctioned Rs 5.4 crore for the construction of its sub-centre in the city. The decision was taken during the UoP's senate meeting on March 16 and 17. The bhoomipujan of the independent sub-centre on 62.5 acres land at Shivnai in Dindori is scheduled on March 28.
At present, the sub-centre is functioning at Palika Bazaar in Canada Corner on a rented premises.
The university wanted a sub-centre of its own with better infrastructure for saving time and money.
"The vice chancellor also announced that necessary files of the land had been cleared. The land can be transferred to the university after the valuation amount is paid to the owners. A provision of Rs 5.4 crore has been made in the budget for the sub-centre. In June, we expect more amount to be sanctioned," said Milind Wagh, a senate member.
"Rs 5 crore has been sanctioned for the construction of the building, while Rs 40 lakh has been allotted for building the compound wall. More than a month ago, we had submitted a draft budget of Rs 110 crore along with the plan details of the Nashik campus to the state government. The proposal is pending with the higher and technical education department. We need things to start moving at least with respect to the Nashik campus," Wagh said.
He said that Rs three needed to install sophisticated instruments at the sub-centre.
The independent sub-centre is expected to simplify everything for the students as well as the teachers. Activities such as approval of students' documents, workshops for teaching and non-teaching staff, etc., will be carried out at the sub-centre. Various facilities such as research instrumentation, virtual classroom, facility centre, full-fledged library, referencing facilities, etc., will be available to the students. Moreover, all exam-related work, documentation and verification of eligibility forms will be done at the sub-centre.
