BANGALORE: In a big relief to Muthappa Rai, the Karnataka high court has exempted the private guards providing security cover to him from surrendering their licensed fire arms to the authorities during the Lok Sabha elections.
Justice S Abdul Nazeer passed an interim order to this effect. This order follows a petition filed by Muthappa Rai seeking police security to him.

The petitioner, who claims to be in construction business, has claimed that during the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, those private armed guards whom he had employed have to hand over their licensed guns/revolvers to the police as per the requirement of law and thus he will get exposed to security threat as Dawood Ibrahim and other gangsters who are inimical to him would target him.
Rai had also stated that though he had submitted a request as early as February 14,2014, till date there is no response from the authorities concerned.
