Leopard killed after attack on 4 men

REASI/ RAJOURI, Mar 17:  A full grown leopard was killed after he attacked four persons, causing them serious injuries in Ransoo area of Reasi while another leopard killed 31 sheep and injured seven others at village Sankri in Rajouri last night.
Reports said the leopard attacked four persons in two separate incidents in Ransoo/ Fargan area and caused them serious injuries. The locals took up the matter with the District Magistrate Reasi Dr Shahid Iqbal and maintained that this animal was also posing threat to the pilgrims visiting Shiv Khori shrine. Upon this, the DM took up the issue with the CCF Wild Life Protection Department and after consultation with him issued direction to shoot down the man eater wild beast.
A police party led by DySP (Prob) Junaid Hakim along with armed cops started operation during mid night and finally managed to trace and gun down the wild beast at some distance from Shiv Khori track at around 2 am. SSP Reasi, Vivek Gupta supervised the operation.
The injured were identified as Mohd Bashir and Kala, sons of Dawood, residents of Fargal hamlet, Krishan, son of Nikka Ram and Jumma, son of Haji Lantha of  Ransoo area.
A report from Rajouri said that a leopard stormed into the cattle shed of one Abdul Qayoom, son of Bashir Hussain at Sankari-II in Rajouri area last night and killed 31 sheep. The wild beast also caused injuries to seven other sheep and goats. The police party along with Veterinary team rushed to the area today and took cognizance of the matter.
