SILCHAR: Drunken driving killed at least three Holi revellers in Silchar and left nine others injured in other parts of the Barak Valley on Monday.
A police officer said the three youths died when the motorbike in which they were travelling collided with a passenger vehicle in the Topkhana locality near Silchar. The accident took place at 1 pm on Monday.
Sources said the youths were going to Mashimpur to visit the Kali temple there.
At 1 pm, they met with the accident. Two youths, identified as Sanjib Sinha (22) and Bao Sinha (20), died on the spot while Nilay Das (22) breathed his last after he was brought to Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH).
The three youths are residents of Bhakatpur village near here. The motorbike carrying the three youths was in high speed, witnesses said.
Reports from Karimganj said at least nine Holi revellers, all youths, were injured in separate motorcycle accidents on Monday. While five of them have been admitted to SMCH, four are undergoing treatment at Karimganj Civil Hospital.
