Gurgaon (Haryana), Mar.17 (ANI): Sixteen hand-picked young models from North India sashayed down the ramp at The Westin, Gurgaon, showcasing their individual sense of style and attitude during the Amway Femina Style Diva North 2014 fashion pageant late on Sunday night.
Hida Siddiqui was declared the winner, while Kanika Kapoor and Meenakshi Choudhary were the first and second runners-up respectively.
The nearly three-hour-long show, which got off to a late start, was hosted by noted VJ and IPL commentator Archana Vijay, and adjudicated by an eight-member panel of judges. The panel included fashion icon, actor and producer Malaika Arora Khan, South Indian superstar Tamannaah Bhatia, Femina Managing Editor Kermin Bhot, entrepreneur and socialite Ramola Bachchan, Model Tina Chatwal, Designers Payal Jain and Anupama Dayal, and the General Manager of The Westin, Sanjeev Sharma.
The aim of the event was for a "woman who owns style, and could make fashion experts sit up and take notice".
In all, there were five rounds over which adjudication was done, including models showcasing ensembles from their own wardrobe and talking about their individual style quotients; sashaying down the ramp in Monte Carlo's chic spring and summer 2014 collection; showcasing Indian aesthetics from the Biba ethnic collection; flaunting cocktail gowns from fashion designer Nitya Birla Bajaj's collection, and finally a fashion-related question and answer round.
The five final rounds were preceded by sub-contests organized by Amway, Alpha Monte Carlo, Philips Kerashine Range, Biba, Hindware Italian Collection, Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, Spicejet and ace choreographer Achla Sachdev.
Each sequence was choreographed by Achla Sachdev.
The pageant was interspersed by performances by Bollywood playback singers Siddarth Mahadevan (tunes from Bhaag Milka Bhaag and Zindagi Nahi Milegi Dobara) and Ankit Tewari (tunes from Aashiqui-2), besides the Indian version of Michael Jackson's famed "Moonwalk" in the form of a group called MJ Five.
The sixteen models were from diverse educational backgrounds, including IT engineer, electronic engineer, mass communications and journalism, masters in economics, architecture and poet etc.
The over 250 guests were also treated to a 25 to 27-course Indian and continental buffet spread that ranged from the staple Dal Amritsari and Aloo Udhagiri to the lesser known Feta Cheese Canneloni, Beetroot and Orange Salad, Grilled Fish and Grilled Herb Root Vegetables. By Ashok Dixit (ANI)
