GUWAHATI: More women are set to be empowered, with the
Mission Poorna Shakti (MPS), a project under the Center's
National Mission for Empowerment of Women, planning to increase its coverage by a wide margin.
The scheme, which helps women battle social and domestic violence, aims to include 48,291 women in Kamrup (Metro) district in its fold. The scheme, which began on January, 2012, currently covers 10,068 women in the outskirts of Guwahati city.
Women in Kamarkuchi and Borkhat village panchayats in Dimoria block of Kamrup (Metro) district are also beneficiaries of the project.
According to a household survey by MPS co-coordinators in Dimoria, a mere 46 per cent women showed awareness of the various women-oriented government schemes.
Women in Dimoria were trained to rear poultry at the household level for economic empowerment under the scheme.
