Crop Top
This summer stick to that workout routine—bare midriffs are here to stay. Ever since Nishka Lulla introduced crop tops on the Indian runways a few seasons ago, it's no longer inappropriate to show your mid-section when going out somewhere other than the beach. The popularity of the crop top in recent seasons has given rise to several complementary trends like the bralets and crop shirts. Variants of this are seen in Lulla, Singhal and Quirk Box's collections.

Shine On
In no way futuristic, a good portion of metallics—precious metals like gold, platinum, and silver, interspersed with satin, lurex or lamé in every colour of the rainbow—add a touch of luxe to the season. Carrying forward from previous seasons "gold is big in all forms and shimmer too," says Gaurav Gupta. There are metallic jerseys, shimmer sequins and colours like gold, black and copper. Gold features predominantly in Anushka Khanna's collection as well. Nitya Arora of Valliyan brings "a lot of sparkle and shine—metallics and high-shine fabrics, and metal with high-shine gold and rose-gold mixed with crystals".

Sorbet Colours
Not exactly groundbreaking, but fondant shades reign the runways with a twist. This season's shiny satin and shimmery iterations give pastels a fresh feel and can be worn head-to-toe for an off-kilter take on girly. Pick your most flattering colour and wear it with whatever silhouette suits you. Muted blush, mint, violet and blue are the rage. Quirk Box's collection sees "fluid fabrics, cottons, silks, a mix of pop and pastels, and comfort silhouettes, with signature original art prints" while Payal Singhal's has "muted colours in crepe, tulle, silk and linen."

Sheerly There
Transparency is the key, once again. Perfect for our Indian summers—tops, skirts, dresses, shirts—anything goes as long as it's see-through. This season's peek-a-boo detailing is a mix of layering, from sheers layered with opaques to sheer-on-sheer and mixed media. Go sexy but cautious, with sheer-chiffon layered skirts, shirt hems as well as outwear with bralets and glittering bodices, hinting at what lies beneath.

Flower Power
As banal as flowers in spring might sound, for
SS '14 they've had a serious makeover. The novel interpretations involve 3D applications, hand painted patterns and as in the image alongside, attention stealing broaches, belts and bags.
