FMO appoints vice-chairman [Executive Appointments Monitor Worldwide]

(Executive Appointments Monitor Worldwide Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) The Federation of Manufacturing Opticians (FMO) has elected a new vice-chairman this week, Mark Truss (pictured), who now supports chairman, Barry Dibble, in leading the UK manufacturing body.

As sales director for The Norville Group, Mr Truss has a thorough understanding of the market, the threats and the opportunities to increase business.

Regarding his new role, he said: "I consider it to be a great honour and aim to contribute a lot. The FMO is to be celebrated for drawing all spheres of optics together as demonstrated by recent leaders. Former chairman, John Conway, knew the lens sector extraordinary well, Barry, the lab sector, and my knowledge of frames and sunglasses brings a complete cross section." Mr Dibble is delighted that Mr Truss, already an FMO board member and chairman of its Frame Focus Group, has been appointed to the new role.

He said: "Having worked with Mark on the board for over two years I've got to know him well and greatly respect his professionalism and integrity. I firmly believe him to be the natural choice to succeed me at the end of my second term in December 2015." Sharing industry knowledge and being at the forefront of change within the UK optical market are seen as key benefits of being actively involved with the trade body, which is looking to attract more suppliers, large and small 'for the benefit of all.' Mr Truss added: "The open exchange that The FMO facilitates is highly valuable. It also gives assurances of quality in business and services. We offer the chance to share market experiences, both good and bad, and to network. The FMO's benefits package is substantial with preferential rates for Optrafair, a direct legal advice line; the opportunity to influence industry standards, and to capitalise on industry benchmarks and statistics." "The huge advantage of a proactive trade association is that it gives us all a broader perspective of the optical market," he concluded.
