ITANAGAR: BJP candidate from Arunachal West constituency,
Kiren Rijiju, on Friday alleged that the state's caretaker government had violated the
Election Commission's model code of conduct by allocating funds to various state departments.
In a statement, Rijiju claimed the government allotted funds to the water resources department, PWD, rural works department and other departments under the revised estimate allocation for the financial year 2013-14.
"The allocation, made at the eleventh hour despite the dissolution of the state assembly and declaration of polls, is a serious violation of the model code of conduct in the state," Rijiju said. He added, "The discreet allocation of funds by the caretaker government clearly shows an attempt to gain political mileage by utilizing the state's resources. This is almost like embezzlement. This act by the government is a serious case of financial corruption."
He appealed to the concern officials to follow the Election Commission's directives and not succumb to political pressures as that would invite punitive action.
"The state government, on its own, has suddenly and surreptitiously ended its remaining eight-month tenure. Therefore, until a new government is formed after the polls, the caretaker government cannot frame any major policies and take decisions like allocation of extra or additional funds to various sectors," he said.
