ACB traps Mamlatdar, assistant at Narol for taking Rs 50k bribe
AHMEDABAD: A mamlatdar and his assistant were caught by officials of the state anti-corruption bureau (ACB) in a trap on Thursday. Indrasinh Zala, the prime accused, had demanded Rs 50,000 to admit a protest report in an inheritance case. The ACB sleuths used the audio and video devises that would form part of the evidence, said senior officials.
According to ACB officials, Shiraz Vora, a resident of Narol, came to know about a claim in inheritance case by his uncle.
"Vora’s father had died a few years back and his family had got his inheritance. However, Vora’s uncle was not convinced with the arrangement and he wanted his name added as the beneficiary at the mamlatdar office. When Vora came to know about the development, he approached mamlatdar office at Narol and asked the officials to record a protest report,"said an ACB official.
For the work, Vora claimed, the office bearers asked for Rs 50,000. Vora then approached ACB. The officials suggested him to cooperate with the prime accused Indrasinh Zala, the mamlatdar and native of Limdi, Surendranagar, as a team went with him to the spot in plain cloth.
“Zala’s assistant Vasudevsinh Zala met Vora outside the office and talked about the money transaction. As Vora handed him the bag containing numbered notes, the ACB officials filmed the entire proceedings. Vasudevsinh soon called up Indrasinh confirming receipt of the cash as Indrasinh said that the work would be done. Once the transaction was complete, the officials led by inspector DH Desai first nabbed Vasudevsinh and later Indrasinh on the basis of the transaction and exchange of words,"said an ACB official.
Officials have also launched inquiry in Zala’s property and financial holdings and have submitted a report to the state administration department informing them about the trap.
