Constable catching criminal shot at, shooter escapes

VARANASI: In a bid to catch a criminal, a constable of crime branch of Ghazipur police was shot at near Salempur Baghai village under Bahariabad police station on Thursday.
The shooter managed to escape after looting service pistol of the constable.
According to reports, during surveillance of doubtful number the crime branch cops got a clue that some dreaded criminals were passing through Bahariabad area on a motorcycle.
Taking a serious note of it, the crime branch constables including Dharmendra Yadav, Ramjanam Yadav and Satyendra Pal reached Bahariabad police station. After reporting the matter at Bahariabad police station they were coming out when the miscreants passed through the area.
On seeing them the crime branch police started chasing them.
When criminals were passing through Salempur Baghai village their motorcycle collided with a stone and fell. In the meantime the crime branch police also reached there.
But before they could succeed in nabbing them two of the criminals restarted the motorcycle and fled from the scene. On seeing it Ramjanam and Satyendra started following them again.
On the other hand Dharmendra caught one of the criminals. But the latter started fighting with him. When Dharmendra fell on road the miscreant opened fire on him with a pistol. Before he could target the temple of Dharmendra a local farmer pushed the shooter. Due to it the shooter missed the target and Dharmendra suffered other bullet injury on throat. Later, the shooter looted the service pistol of Dharmendra and fled from the scene.
Seriously injured Dharmendra was initially rushed to Ghazipur district hospital. On noticing sharp deterioration in his health condition doctors referred him to Varanasi where his condition was stable.
After the incident Ghazipur police cordoned the borders of district and launched a massive checking drive to nab the shooter and his accomplices.
