SURAT: 'Dang Darbar', an annual three-day celebration of the tribals in Dang, was inaugurated at Ahwa on Thursday.
The Dang Darbar is organized every year by the district administration, a week prior to Holi festival at Ahwa.
At the Dang Darbar, inaugurated by Gujarat Governor, Dr Kamala on Thursday, the five Dangi kings, nine nayakas and 476 bhau-bandhus were given away political pensions to the tune of Rs 21,45,220 in the presence of thousands of tribals from across the district.

Besides this honour, rewards were also given to the villagers who had contributed significantly towards fire protection.
This year, the five Dangi kings celebrated the Dang Darbar on the theme of 'Save Jungles'. The Dangi kings exhorted the Gujarat government to contribute significantly to protect the jungles from wood smugglers, who have become active in the region for the past couple of years.
Meanwhile, tens of thousands of tribals from 300 villages in Dang district descended on Ahwa town for the three-day long Dang Darbar. A fair starts a week in advance from where the tribals purchase sweets, farsan, utensils, toys, cutlery, radios, tapes, televisions, clothes, articles of bamboo, household goods and ornaments.
Beside this, cinema and tamasha parties also do a brisk business as people from almost all the villages visit Ahwa with their families to witness the historic event.
