In keeping with all things Rajinikanth, the audio release of his forthcoming film Kochadaiiyaan, directed by his daughter Soundarya was by all accounts a grand affair. Complete with all the frills expected of a high-wattage do, it was held in Chennai’s Sathyam cinema. Shah Rukh Khan was the Chief Guest at the event which was attended by 500 heads of the numerous Rajini Fan Clubs besides stars like Dhanush Raja (also the superstar’s son-in-law, married to his daughter Aishwarya) and of course, the entire team of the film.
The freshly minted director, Soundarya R Ashwin, started off the event by explaining what a performance capture photo-realistic film involved. Some footage from the film shoot with Thalaiva and his co-stars-Deepika Padukone, Jackie Shroff, Shobhana , Nasser, Sharathkumar among others, kitted out in suits with sensors following the director’s instructions was shared with the audience.
In association with Karrbon mobiles, a special Kochadaiiyaan edition of phones was also launched at the function. The film, a collaboration between Eros International and Mediaone Global Entertainment Ltd is reported to have a budget of Rs.115-125 crore. Given the superstar’s massive following, it will be released in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Marathi, Punjabi and Bhjopuri on April 11 with 500 prints in Tamil Nadu alone. The film may also be released in Japan where the actor has a significant fan following.
According to the superstar, he was happy to have done a film based on folklore, (the story of a king) and the motion capture technique used in the film he said, had made the process very easy for him.
The film’s music by Oscar winner A.R.Rahman with sound design by Resul Pookutty (also an Oscar award winner) is an added attraction. What makes the album special is the song Manapennin Sathiyam sung by the actor’s wife Latha Rajinikanth, a trained singer herself. The superstar too has rendered a few lines, although he hasn’t sung a song confirmed Soundarya. Sony Music is releasing the music.
