'We admire Pentagram, Delhi Sultanate and Raggae Rajahs'
This live electronica outfit combines the joint forces of music producer Manas Ullas from Bangalore, and rock musicians P-Man and Sidd Coutto from Mumbai. Their sets draw influences from dubstep, drum n bass, rock n’ roll to hip hop and breakbeat.
On their a-ha moment: ViceVersa started as a bedroom project when Manas and P-Man aka Rohit Pereira started collaborating on the sounds that Manas had been tinkering with.
In 2012, Sidd — who’s part of at least six other bands — joined them on this experimental journey. Each band member brings with him years of experience in various genres.
On their brand of music: “We try to find new sounds and also juggle with beats and pauses, highs and lows, words and silences,” says P-Man. They released their debut EP in November 2012 followed by a tour at music festivals all over India. With an amalgamation of different experimental sounds, ViceVersa have composed nine tracks, collaborating indie artists Keshav Dhar (Skyharbor), Sidharth Basrur, Ayan De (Paralights) and Shalmali Kholgade.
On their influences: “Our influences are varied and come from a variety of genres, but if we had to name the biggest one, it would be Prodigy,” says P-Man who is equally spellbound by their live performances as Manas is by their technical wizardry. “We also admire Pentagram, Delhi Sultanate and Raggae Rajahs,” he says. Their other favourites are Shaa'ir + Func, Pentagram, Dualist Inquiry, Jalebee Cartel, Sky Rabbit, Chromaderma, V, Func International, Skyharbor, Scribe, Bhayanak Maut, Zygnema, Devoid, Exhumation and Sridhar/Thayil.
On their way forward: “We want to keep entertaining people,” says P-Man. ViceVersa is almost ready with the third EP which will be out later this year.
