Goa gears to celebrate Holi with Shigmotsav

Shigmo is Goa's answer to Holi and is the state’s biggest spring festival that lasts for 14 days.

As northern India prepares to welcome the advent of spring with myriad hues of colours and hilarity, the Goan soil is soaked with euphoria in anticipation of the Shigmotsav.

Shigmo is Goa’s answer to Holi and is the state’s biggest spring festival. A spectacular 14-day display of Goan ethnicity and mythology will be on show at the annual Shigmo parade from March 16 to 31, 2014 in various parts of Goa.

The festival is traditionally celebrated to honour the homecoming of the warriors who had left their homes and families at the end of Dusshera to fight the invaders. This mesmerizing celebration is the Goan farewell to the winters.

Our focus is to preserve and promote the rich Goan art and culture and showcase it to the world. There will be lively décor, colorful parades and various traditional dance groups consisting of women and men dancers will give vibrant performances..” said Mr. Dilip Parulker, Minister of Tourism, Goa.

This festival of colour and mythology gives way for people to to come together and celebrate spring in harmony. The streets of Goa during Shigmotsav are lit up with attractive décor, lively parades and delicious Goan delicacies add to the celebrations. This revelry, celebration and gaiety is definitely not something to miss out on.
