A bus driver has been sentenced to life in prison for murdering a compatriot by hitting his head with a sharp tool and then slitting his throat with a screwdriver following a family dispute.

The 32-year-old indian planned the murder in advance and arranged for the tools, and he lured the victim to an isolated location in nad al sheba on february 14 last year where he killed him and disposed of the body on the side of a road near a construction site. he also stole the victim’s mobile phone.

He was convicted of the charges of premeditated murder and theft by the court of first instance. he will be deported after serving the jail term.

A police officer said that the body was found in a sandy location in nad al sheba 4 with its position suggesting a foul play. “it had head injury marks and the skull bones could be seen. it was put in a bag.”

The defendant was arrested the following day. he voluntarily admitted that he killed the victim claiming that they had a quarrel over the defendant’s sister-in-law in india. he recounted to the police how he lured the victim to travel with him in his company’s bus which he drove.

He fooled the victim that he would let him sleep in his accommodation in al quoz. he drove from the naif area to al quoz where they had a brawl near al khail mall. “he beat the victim with a wooden broomstick and they engaged in a physical fight.”

The defendant then drove to an isolated location where he hit the victim’s head three times with a sharp tool.

The defendant then drove to dump the victim’s body somewhere else but he realised that he was still breathing. he slit his throat with a screwdriver.

He put the body in a bag which he had purchased earlier for that purpose and dumped the body on the side of the road.

The verdict can be appealed within 15 days.
