Pursuit through Armidale CBD
The Crime Manager at New England Local Area Command says a man who allegedly engaged police in a pursuit on Friday morning in the Armidale CBD is still on the run.
The man, described as being of Aboriginal appearance with a thin build, allegedly stole a vehicle from a Donnelly Street premises at around 7am, and Police saw a vehicle matching the description 45 minutes later.
Detective Inspector Ann Joy says there were a number of separate pursuits, before the offender ran into bushland.
"A pursuit commenced in Beardy Street, and it was terminated some couple of minutes later," she said.
"Soon after that vehicle was again detected on Long Swamp Road, where there was another short pursuit before the vehicle collided with a post at the side of the road and the offender got out on foot."
Detective Inspector Joy says the offender is still on the run.
"A number of Highway Police, General Duties and Detectives were engaged in setting up a perimeter, and doing a thorough search of the area, but at this stage, that person's still at large."
