Govt hoarding still in place despite claims made by cops
KANPUR: Contrary to the claims of the police that the hoardings displaying the government schemes have been removed, a number of such hoardings with the cutouts of political leaders, especially of the ruling party were still seen, flouting the model code of conduct.
The SSP office had claimed on Monday that all the government hoardings had been removed from the city after the instructions from the Election Commission.
But the real picture is not the same. A SMS forwarded to newspersons from the SSP office read 'manniya Election Commission ke nirdesho ke anupalan mein city ke sabhi sarkari hoardings, posters ityadi ko hatwa diya gaya jiski pushti nagar nigam se ki ja sakti hai' (On the instructions of the honourable Election Commission, all the government hoardings, posters and banners have been removed and this could be verified from the Kanpur Nagar Nigam). But this did not seem to be true.
Such hoardings were seen at different places in the city including Mall Road, Jajmau and Kalpi Road. At Mall Road, the police came into action on seeing TOI photographer and started covering a hoarding which had CM Akhilesh Yadav's picture, a cycle rally being taken out and Dial 100 police services.
A Samajwadi Party hoarding about 'Cycle Rally' from Delhi to Lucknow at Jajmau was another violation of the model code of conduct. This hoarding needs to be removed.
District election officer Roshan Jacob, on Monday, instructed the administrative and the police officials to ensure that the political hoarding and banners, posters be removed. Eight teams have been formed which will enforce the model code of conduct, keeping in view the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The officials involved in conducting the elections were ordered to understand the rules so that there is no problem in the execution of the duties during the election period. Divisional commissioner Iftikharuddin during a meeting of the officials at the camp office instructed them to paint the walls on which the wall writing had been done. He also instructed the KMC officials to remove the hoardings. He said that if laxity in doing the job would invite strict action.
