Lawyer shot dead in Pratapgarh

Two unidentified bike-borne assailants gunned down a 30-year-old lawyer in Kotwali police station area of Pratapgarh on Monday.

ALLAHABAD: Two unidentified bike-borne assailants gunned down a 30-year-old lawyer in Kotwali police station area of Pratapgarh on Monday. Two constables had a narrow escape when they were fired upon by the assailants whom they tried to stop.
The deceased has been identified as Prabhakar Singh alias Meenu Singh, a resident of Gopalpur near Tehsil Sadar campus in Pratapgarh.
Following the incident, police teams carried out a massive hunt for the killers. "Three police teams have been pressed into service to nail the criminals. A case has been lodged with the Kotwali police station. Initial investigations have revealed old enmity to be the prime cause behind the murder," IG, Allahabad zone, LV Antony Deo Kumar told TOI.tnn
Reports said that two unidentified bike-borne assailants sprayed bullets on the lawyer at around 10 :30 am when he approached the Tehsil premises. The lawyer was hit at least thrice.
Hearing gun sound, two police constables, Narendra Tiwari and Kamlesh Dwivedi, rushed to the scene and tried to catch the attackers. Both the constables had a narrow escape when the assailants fired at them before fleeing.
Police and locals rushed the injured lawyer to the local hospital but he died on way.
Lawyers said that this was the second incident of firing near the Tehsil campus in the past three months and demanded security.
Inspector, Kotwali, Lallan Singh told TOI, "We are working on some leads."
