KANPUR: A carton manufacturing factory was destroyed in fire in Fazalganj area on Sunday. No casualty was reported.
The fire broke out around 11 am in the carton factory owned by Rajendra Kumar, a resident of Swaroop Nagar. Several fire tenders fought the blaze, a fire official said. People living in the houses close to the factory were evacuated as the fire spread.
A short-circuit is believed to have triggered the blaze in which property worth lakhs was destroyed.

The fire reduced major portion of the factory to ashes. It took three to four fire tenders from Latouche Road, Fazalganj and Colonelganj fire stations several hours to douse the flames. The task was made tougher by the presence of combustible material in the factory. There were thin presence of workers due to Sunday and none suffered injuries.
A huge quantity of highly combustible material, including paper cartons were stored there, a fire official said. The fire resulted in a chaos in the Fazalganj Industrial Area and flames could be seen from a distance of 500 metres away from the unit. The fire was spotted by factory security personnel. Their efforts to control the flames proved futile. The fire control room was alerted.
