Perfectionist on stage & beyond, Sudha Raghunathan felicitated

CHENNAI: "From managing household chores to performing in 'kutcheris' –Sudha is a perfectionist in everything," said writer-novelist Sivasankari while felicitating vocalist Sudha Raghunathan at the 24th annual music and drama festival organized by Hamsadhwani, an organization catering to 'rasikas' in Adyar.
"She should teach time management as she is a full-time professional and is there for the family too.She plans everything perfectly," said Sivasankari while talking about the person behind the performer. "She is a great artist and an equally great human being."
The vocalist who was conferred this year's Sangita Kalanidhi by the Music Academy, was chosen to be felicitated on International Women`s Day for her achievements in music and her commitment to social causes through her foundation, Samudhaaya.
Sudha was felicitated with a 'Venkataramana Swamy' idol, her family deity that was brought to the stage on a palanquin.
"Awards remind you that there is more responsibility and more expectations," said Sudha. She recalled how she began her tutelage under M L Vasanthakumari 30 years ago and the same year, her guru received the Sangita Kalanidhi. "The dream to receive it became reality this year and it has only left me with more dedication, focus, humility and dreams," she said.
Rajalakshmi Institutions chairperson Thangam Meghanathan also felicitated the vocalist at the event. She said Sudha has brought the younger generation to the sabhas. She said, "Sudha has sustained music for future generations."
The event was followed by Sudha Raghnathan's concert accompanied by Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi, Patri Satish Kumar and R Raman.
