AHMEDABAD: Beyond doubts, Ahmedabad's young shuttler Anoushka Parikh is currently the best female badminton player this state has.
Ahmedabad International School student, Anoushka proved her mettle when she recently returned with the won bronze medal at the girls under-19 doubles event in the All-India Junior Ranking Tournament at Chandigarh.
The third seed pair of Anoushka and Revati Debasthale lost 13-21, 16-21 to sixth seed pair of D Pooja and Ningshi Hazarika in the semis gave her the medal in her first year of U-19 category.
Anoushka and Revati did well to beat fifth seed Vaishnavi Kand Sonika Sai 21-14, 21-19 in the quarters.
The16-year-old, who trains with SAG coach Unnikrishna Varma, had torrid time in singles where she won her first match against Mamitha Kadari 22-10, 21-10 but lost the battle of nerves against Sudha Kalyani in the next match.
It should be remembered that back in April 2012, Anoushka teamed up with Lalita Katre in the under-15 doubles event and reached the semifinal to win a bronze for India in the Asia Youth Championships, held in Chiba, Japan.
If the younger is groom well, she can be bright star for not only the state but also the country.
