I-T teams to check misuse of cash during LS elections

Though in the Vidhan Sabha elections around Rs 2.5 lakh or above in cash could be carried along with necessary documents, now there was no limit, said H S Sohi, director income tax (investigations) and also the warrant issuing authority for Punjab and J&K.

Sohi said, “One need to carry necessary documents along with a certificate from bank in case the cash has been withdrawn from the bank and self-declaration showing the purpose for which it is to be used.”

He added that while taking cash from a particular person, one needed to maintain the necessary documents, including PAN card of the person who has given the cash and again the purpose of its usage.

Appealing to the masses to avoid hoax calls, the I-T officers said that their teams had already started work. They added that a person could appeal against the seizure in case he thought that it was done wrongly.
