Actors on their favourite female film characters
Arjun Kapoor Nargisji’s character in Mother India because it encompassed every emotion a mother feels towards her children with so much sincerity.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui I like characters which you can identify with. Larger than life, fantasy characters don’t appeal to me, which is why I loved Kangana Ranaut's role in Queen.
The innocence of that character is beautiful. Vidya Balan’s portrayal of a pregnant woman in Kahaani was remarkable. The way she acted, it was so authentic and real.
Rajkummar Rao One of my favourite characters will be of course Rani from Queen. I am still in awe of her as to how adorable and strong she is. She is an inspiration to everyone.

Sonu Sood My favourite onscreen character has to be Meenakshi Sheshadri’s Damini. I was in college at that time and didn’t understand technicalities of films. But the character is so brilliantly written by director Rajkumar Santoshi and so fabulously performed by Meenashi, that it hits you hard. So much so that you want to support her in her fight for justice. It is one of the most well-sketched on-screen female characters.

Amit Sadh Kareena Kapoor Khan’s character in Jab We Met. It was unabashedly effervescent, confident yet agonised over the travails of that one emotion that makes us all human — love.
Tusshar Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada, Sridevi in Chandni and Kareena in Jab We Met are some of my favourite on-screen female characters. But Uma Thurman’s Beatrix Kiddo/The Bride in Kill Bill tops them for the way she essayed the character. Be it the emotions and the intensity she portrayed or the stunts she performed, I don’t think any male actor has made such an impact. Closer home, it’s Meena Kumari in Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam. Such was her performance that it didn’t seem she was acting, she had become the character.
Dino Morea My favourite on-screen characters would be Jennifer Lawrence’s in Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle. She’s stunning and her varied roles have been brilliant. Kangana Ranaut was superb in Queen.
Rajniesh Duggal I loved Nargisji in Mother India. Her character stays with you even after the film is over. In the film, she showed strength and at the same time, also her vulnerability, which is just what a woman is all about. Even the romance and the pathos have stayed with me.
Chandan Roy Sanyal Sridevi’s character in Chaalbaaz, because she played it like a dude. It was so refreshing to see her in the 90s while growing up. She was like a hero in the time of bad films and the worse phase of Indian cinema. I loved her in Mr India too. She was awesome as Chaplin.
