With two back-to-back hits, Om Shanti Oshana and 1983 in Malayalam, Nivin Pauly is raring to go on.

An IT professional working at Infosys, Bengaluru, until a couple of years ago, Pauly’s journey into cinema was unplanned.

“I was not at all happy with my work,” says Pauly over the phone from Kochi. Quitting Infosys, he took some time in deciding his next move.

The break into films happened through auditions for Vineeth Sreenivasan’s debut film, Malarvadi Arts Club.

Subsequently, he played the lead role in Sreenivasan’s next, Thattathin Marayathu, bringing home Asianet’s Best Star Pair award with his co-star, Isha Talwar.

In 1983 his challenge lay in portraying his character Ramesan, from his school days to a forty plus father of a little boy.

“It was quite tough, keeping in mind the energy levels and body language for the two phases of Ramesan’s life,” reveals Pauly, a cricket lover. “It’s a tribute to the icon Sachin Tendulkar.”

On the other hand, in Om Shanti Oshana, his character Giri is a practical person who cannot be swayed by the charms of Pooja, a bubbly teenager, bent on winning his heart.

Pauly is currently shooting for national award winning director Anjali Menon’s star-packed Bangalore Days.
