JOIN USScintillation 2014’, the inter-collegiate cultural fest of Jyoti Nivas College, took place recently. The fest’s theme of ‘vintage fiesta’ could be seen everywhere, be it in the events or decor around the campus.
The fest saw participation from various City colleges like Mount Carmel College, Christ University, St Joseph’s Evening College, Jain College (Jayanagar) and Al Ameen College to name a few.
Odissi dancer Manasi Raghunandhan and Kannada film director S Nagendra Urs inaugurated the fest.
This was followed by events like beatboxing, Western dance, Western acoustics, quiz, treasure hunt and of course, the fashion show, which saw different interpretations of the vintage theme being played out.
What made the first day most special was ‘Lantern Night’, a first-of-its-kind event in any college fest, where over 200 lanterns were lit and let into the night sky, making for a gorgeous sight.
The second day saw an even bigger turnout with fun events like dumb charades, JAM, debate, mock rock and street play to participate in.
Another important event was the crowning of ‘Mr and Ms Scintillation’, the titles of which were bagged by Praveen from Indian Academy and Tamara from Jyoti
Nivas College respectively.
The fest came to an end with a performance by the percussion act Beat Gurus
followed by a set by DJ Guru, who got everyone dancing and screaming for more.
Rochelle Stephens, the student president of Jyoti Nivas College and head designer of the fest, said that it took a lot of effort and preparation to make the fest a grand success.
“We chose ‘vintage fiesta’ as the theme as it would give us the opportunity to experiment with colours and designs. It worked out well and the whole campus was vibrant and beautiful. We wanted to make ‘Scinitillation’ as unique as it could get, which is why we had the ‘Lantern Night’. The response was brilliant,” she shared.
Elizabeth Riya Roy, the emcee for most on-stage events, cherished her experience.
“It was memorable to address such an enthusiastic and huge crowd. The colourful designs and decoration in keeping with the theme gave the campus a new life by itself,” she said.
St Joseph’s College of Commerce emerged as the overall winner of the fest. Pilith, the cultural secretary and a participant from SJCC, was ecstatic about the win.
“This was one of the last few fests before our exams
begin and it was a truly memorably experience.
Of all the 30 odd events, each one was enjoyable in its own way. Beat Gurus, the stars of the evening, got the audience grooving and I loved them!” he said.
