HAZARIBAG: A truck carrying tyres worth Rs 23.8 lakh was looted late on Friday night on NH-33 near Mandu, about 200km from Hazaribag town.
The truck was carrying 200 tyres from the Gwalior unit of
JK tyres .
The consignment was dispatched on February 24 and was coming to Jamshedpur but the company lost contact with the driver on February 27, police said.
The manager of the Gwallior-based factory, Ajit Singh, came to Hazaribag after repeated efforts to trace the vehicle failed.
The driver informed Singh that when they were approaching the valley between Hazaribag, armed men travelling in two trucks stopped his vehicle at
Nagwan Airstrip around midnight.
About six men boarded the truck and forced the driver to stop it.
The miscreants loaded the tyres in the two trucks and disappeared in the darkness, police said quoting Singh.
An FIR was lodged with
Hazaribag police station on Saturday.
In another incident, four armed men escaped with a truck loaded with plywood despatched from Mathabhanga in North Bengal to Raipur in Chhattishgarh on February 26, said owner of the truck Shivkumar of Samastipur of Bihar. He said he lost contact with his driver Santosh Kumar after he confirmed that he was approaching Demotand on NH-33.
