Within six months of commencing commercial production of its product range in non-woven medical textiles, Madurai-headquartered AM Nonwovens is preparing to foray into production of non-woven home textiles.

The Chief Executive Officer of AM Nonwovens A Abilash said, “the company has just commenced installation of machinery for manufacture of non-woven home textile products. It will be completed by March 15. We will then do a trial run before commencing commercial production.”

The company’s products have been showcased at AM Nonwovens stall at the medical textiles expo – Meditex 2014, a three-day event, which took off to a glittering start this morning at SITRA Expo Hall.

Over 55 exhibitors are participating in this expo, including international participants from Indonesia and Malaysia.

Elaborating about his venture, Abilash said the unit at Narimedu in Madurai has been established on an outlay of ₹1 crore. ‘We are planning to pump in more money for home textile product range,’ he said, without quantifying the sum.

Its medical textiles product range includes face mask, surgeon cap, shoe cover (pp and non-woven), apron, surgical gown, bed spread with pillow cover, knee cover and few custom made products.

Its production capacity is 12 to 15 lakh pieces per machine per month. AM Nonwovens has engaged 20 people at its factory to operate the machines. Abilash said that the company has tied up with hospitals in Madurai and Chennai for supply of their requirements.

‘The demand for such products is rising month-on-month. While we are keen to cater the domestic market, we are eyeing the export potential for such products as well,’ he said.
