How to become a successful Film Director

Attend film schools: Some directors started as screenwriters, film editors or actors. Some went to attend film schools to get formal training and education. Many of the professors are still working in the industry and are connected with them which can benefit you in getting break in industry. By attending film schools, you can easily figure out who does what in a crew, how to produce a film, how to operate equipment and understand the technical basics of lighting, sound, as well as editing.

Analyze movies: Analyzing movies is different from watching. Analyzing a movie takes twice the time as you rewind and refine the movie and give attention to every detail which will help in deep evaluation of the language of filmmaking.

Write screenplays: Film directors are storytellers. So, take a pen and bunch of paper and start writing. You don't have to become a screenwriter if you don't want to, but you absolutely have to learn screenwriting techniques and apply it to your movies.

Expand your network: Everything is all about who you knows and who knows you. Your friends can help you in finding your way. You have to rely on people who have big contacts.

Salary: Once you become a successful director, you will be rolling in cash. It is indeed one of the highest paid careers.
