KANPUR: The city temples are all set to celebrate the festival of Mahashivratri on Thursday. The prominent temples including Parmat in Civil Lines, Kherepati Temple in Phoolbagh, Jageshwar Temple in Nawabganj were being decorated on Wednesday. Several other temples of the city have also been decorated with flowers for the occasion.
Stalls selling flowers, bel patra and mik packets have been set up on the roads near Shiv temples in the city.
"The flow of the devotees increases by 20 times on Mahashivratri than on the normal days. People of all ages reach Parmat Temple to offer prayers on this day," said Nidhish, a prasad vendor at Parmat temple. "The Siddnath Temple in Jajmau remains a centre of attraction for all the devotees of Lord Shiva throughout the year. Another attraction of Mahashivratri is the Shiv Barat which is taken out with all pomp and show. On this day Lord Shiva married Parvati," said a member of Siddnath Temple committee.
