NASHIK: After the brutal Sunday accident in which two teenagers were run over by a truck in the Trimurti Chowk area of Cidco, the city traffic police have stepped up action in the area and other parts of the city, challaning over 200 motorists under different sections of the Motor Vehicle Act.
Ramdas Rathod, in-charge of the city traffic department, said, "While police action against erring motorists is continuous, we have stepped up our vigil on illegal parking, mainly by heavy vehicles, which pose hindrance to movement of vehicles on city roads."
The police have particularly increased the number of officers in Trimurti Chowk area where the accident took place.
Besides a personnel being deployed in the area, a 'Zebra' (two cops patrolling on a bike) and a patrolling team of the traffic department was continuously monitoring the traffic there.
The police said the main issue that they were dealing with was trucks drivers parking their vehicles on the roadside, thereby posing traffic problems. Action was being taken against such errants in Satpur and Ambad Link Road, they added.
