Dumka tribal girl dies after gang rape ordeal

DUMKA: A 13-year-old tribal girl of Madhuban village under Kathikund police station gang-raped by unidentified men late on Sunday, succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at a government hospital in Suri on Monday.
The victim, who had injuries on her face and head, was found unconscious in a field near the Brahmani river on Monday. Sources aid the men also tried to kill the girl and ran away after dumping her at an abandoned place.
According to the victim's family, the girl had gone to the village market in the adjoining Barkunda village on Sunday evening with two other girls and was traceless since then. Doctors at the sadar hospital in Dumka, where the girl was taken, had referred her to Suri (West Bengal) for better treatment.
An FIR in this connection was lodged by the girl's brother at Kathikund police station. Dumka SP Nirmal Kumar An ASI was sent to Suri to get the girl's statement. But she died midway through the treatment. Both the girls accompanying the victim have not been interrogated by the police.
