AKOLA: Rajkumari (female elephant) in service of Shri Gajanan Maharaj Sansthan, Shegaon the pilgrimage centre in Buldhana district breathed her last on Saturday afternoon which coincidentally is the 136th manifestation (existence) day of Gajanan Maharaj.
Rajkumari had been admitted in service of the Sansthan in 1995 and died at the age of 43 years. Rajkumari led the palkhi procession every year from Shegaon to Pandharpur and also on other occasions, the sansthan sources said.
Thousands of devotees gave her a farewell last evening.
Untrained man dies of electrocution
Akola: Sachin Bodade (28) the resident of village, Belkhed died of electrocution as he came in contact with live wire while working on a pole on Saturday, said police. MB Pawar, the wireman, of MSEDCL had asked Bodade, who was untrained to climb the pole, the villagers said. Meanwhile, Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Gawande demanded stringent action against MSEDCL officers. Police registered a case of accidental death.
Man dies in thrasher machine
Akola: Nagesh Nandokar (25), resident of village Niraj in Akola taluka met with a tragic end after he was trapped in a thrasher machine on Saturday, the police said. The incident took place while harvesting the crop of green-gram. Police registered an accidental death. This is the second fatal incident within last two days in Akola district.
