Anna Nordqvist claims Honda LPGA Thailand championship

CHONBURI, Thailand, Feb. 23 (UPI) -- Anna Nordqvist shot a 4-under-par 68 Sunday in completing a wire-to-wire win at the Honda LPGA Thailand golf tournament.

It was the third LPGA championship for Nordqvist but first since her rookie season when she won the McDonald's LPGA Championship and the LPGA Tour Championship in 2009. She appeared in 95 tournaments between the second win in 2009 and Sunday's title.

She carded seven birdies against a bogey and double bogey in the final round to finish 72 holes at 15-under 273. Defending champion and world No. 1-ranked Inbee Park had a bogey-free 6-under 66 Sunday and wound up second at 13-under.

Catriona Matthew used a final-round 65 to claim third place at 11-under and Michelle Wei, closing with a 69, was fourth at 10-under.

Nordqvist led after the each of the first two rounds by a stroke and opened play Sunday with a four-stroke advantage over Park and Wie. She had a birdie at the par-3 fourth hole but then took a 6 on the par-4 fifth. A birdie at No. 7 allowed her to make the final turn even on the day.

Both Park and Wie were just one stroke back of Nordqvist after No. 10, but Nordqvist put the tournament away with four birdies over the next six holes.

She started a string of three straight birdies at No. 10 and capped the run with a birdie at 16, another par 3. She was 6-under on the par 3s for the week. That allowed her to withstand an 18th-hole bogey.
