LUCKNOW: Members of a family heading home after a 'mundan' ceremony died in a road accident in Sonbhadra district. While 12 persons, including two children who were tonsured, died soon after the Mahindra Bolero in which they were travelling collided with a loaded truck. Three injured were rushed to the hospital.
The accident took place under the jurisdiction of Karma police station around 6.30pm near Lilahi Bahera village that falls across Mirzapur-Robertsganj highway.
Superintendent of Sonbhadra police Rambahadur Yadav said the impact of the collision was so strong the SUV's engine was found stuck inside the boot space of the motor vehicle.
The Kushwaha family was heading to the city after offering prayers at Vindhyachal in Mirzapur district. The family is into agriculture and had taken two children to the religious place for mundan but they died in the accident.
The family stayed Robertsganj area and Yadav said apparently, the SUV driver lost control over the wheel. "The SUV was packed with people and driver could not apply brake on time," added Yadav. The SUV met with a truck ferrying stones head on. The SUV belonged to a retired PWD employee and had been borrowed by the Kushwahas.
