Jesse Tyler Ferguson to host Disney on Broadway special

The program will take viewers on a journey through the creation of Disney's eight Broadway musicals.

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 22 (UPI) -- Modern Family co-star Jesse Tyler Ferguson is to host a television special celebrating Disney Theatrical Productions' two decades on Broadway, ABC announced.

Backstage with Disney on Broadway: Celebrating 20 Years is to air Dec. 14.

Produced by Lincoln Square Productions, the program will take viewers on a journey through the creation of Disney's eight Broadway musicals: Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, AIDA, Tarzan, The Little Mermaid, Mary Poppins, Newsies and Aladdin.

The special features "new commentary and revealing anecdotes by the stars and theater professionals about the creation and long runs of these beloved titles," a synopsis said. It also will include music from the Disney on Broadway catalog performed by Elton John, Sam Palladio, Clare Bowen, Ashley Brown and Adam Jacobs.
