February 07, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 10:38 am IST - HYDERABAD:

On day one following declaration of results for elections to GHMC, hectic activity was witnessed across parties irrespective of whether it was the winning TRS or its rivals which were downcast by the drubbing that they received.

The mood in Congress, particularly, was sombre which was evident from empty corridors in the party office of Gandhi Bhavan. A lone leader addressed a routine press conference to criticise MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi. An hour earlier, the city president of Congress D. Nagender announced resignation from his post at his residence in Banjara Hills.

On the other hand, the victorious corporators-elect of TRS were smiling and exchanging compliments when they went to meet the Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao at his camp office.

The camp office presented a festive look with all the 99 winners and their relatives accompanying them.

Sources said Mr. Rao promised to meet them again on February 9 to discuss the candidates for Mayor and Deputy Mayor’s posts. He told them that a two-day training camp would be organised for them. The corporators also went to the houses of Ministers who were in-charge of their respective wards. The star campaigner for TRS K.T. Rama Rao accompanied by his colleague T. Srinivas Yadav visited Hamali Basti in Padmaraonagar and promised construction of double bed room houses for 800 families within six months.

The Health Minister C. Laxma Reddy visited Gachibowli to look for accommodation to house one of the three 1,000 bed hospitals announced by the Chief Minister at a media conference on Friday evening.

He surveyed a multi-storeyed government complex which was unused.

The Cabinet will meet on Sunday afternoon to approve the announcements by the Chief Minister and vesting Mr. Rama Rao with the portfolio of municipal administration.

The Congress, TDP, BJP and other parties got down to evaluating the results and were of the view that the victory of TRS was aided by the forceful manner in which it convinced masses about constructing double bed room houses on a large scale.

The MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi also met the new corporators belonging to his party at Darussallam. He asked them not to resort to corrupt practices.
