The heavy rains that lashed the city late on Thursday night caused havoc, flooding homes and bringing down fully-grown trees. On Friday morning, the brunt of the heavy rains was evident what with the fallen trees and water logged roads affecting vehicular movement across the city.

As expected the control rooms of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) were flooded with distress calls from citizens.

Heavy downpour flooded the cellar of Nagarjuna Enclave in J.P. Nagar 1st Phase, nearly submerging around 30 cars parked there. Two machines were sent to the spot to pump out the flood waters. The roads near the apartment were still water logged, BBMP sources said.

In Bommanahalli, three slum pockets were flooded, as the rain water entered people's homes. BBMP officials said a machine to pump out the water had been sent there.

Widespread damage, including water logging and flooding, was reported from South and Bommanahalli zones after a storm water drain next to Puttenahalli underpass overflowed. Houses in low lying areas in J.P. Nagar, Sarakki, Chikkalsandra, RBI Layout, Basappa Reddy Garden, Kanakanagar, Kodichikkanahalli and Anugraha Layout were inundated and roads water logged.

Seven trees fell following gusty winds in Banashankari. With the fallen trees yet to be cleared, vehicular movement was affected.

Water logging was also reported near Kino Theatre Junction, Anand Rao Circle, Maharani College underpass, near ITC Windsor and Salem Bridge near Doddanekkundi.

With nearly one feet of water stagnating on the road near K.R. Puram bridge, the median on the road was submerged. BBMP sources said that a car hit the median, further affecting traffic on the busy road.

Meanwhile, Mayor B.N. Manjunath Reddy is expected to visit the rain-affected areas in the city later today.
