Madonna has hit out at a new biopic planned on her pre-fame life, branding anyone who tries to tell the story of her life "a charlatan and a fool".

Universal has acquired the rights to "Blond Ambition," a script about the singer, The Hollywood Reporter reported on Monday.

Brett Ratner is expected to produce the film, which centres on her struggles in New York while making her first album.

On Tuesday, Madonna expressed her displeasure via an Instagram post.

"Nobody knows what I know and what I have seen," she wrote.

"Only I can tell my story. Anyone else who tries is a charlatan and a fool. Looking for instant gratification without doing the work. This is a disease in our society."

The star's debut album, Madonna, was released in 1983 and included hits such as Holiday, Borderline and Lucky Star.

The film will reportedly look at a time when she was dealing with a burgeoning love life and the first hints of fame
